Background
Chronic wounds, stemming from various causes, pose significant challenges in treatment. Numerous commercial products claim efficacy in managing these wounds. This study aimed to evaluate and compare the effectiveness of Ionic Silver Solution and Super Oxidized Solution in managing chronic wounds.
Methods
Sixty patients with chronic wounds were randomly divided into:
- Group A (Ionic Silver Solution): 30 patients
- Group B (Super Oxidized Solution): 30 patients
Dressings were applied until complete healing or readiness for a definitive surgical procedure. Wound progress was assessed using the Bates-Jensen Wound Assessment Tool (BJWAT) Score.
Results
- Participants: 50 patients completed the study.
- Baseline BJWAT Scores:
- Group A: 916
- Group B: 924
- No significant difference at the start.
- Post-Treatment BJWAT Scores:
- Group A: Reduced to 510
- Group B: Reduced to 675
- The difference was statistically significant (p = 0.001).
- Healing Outcomes:
- Both solutions improved overall wound conditions effectively.
- Ionic Silver Solution demonstrated superior efficacy in wound healing.
- Complete healing was observed in a small subset (6%) of patients.
Conclusion
In this study, SilverStream not only showed significant improvement in wound parameters, as evidenced by substantial reductions in the Bates-Jensen Wound Assessment Tool (BJWAT) scores, but also prepared wounds better for definitive surgical interventions. Its safety, ease of use, and effectiveness make it a standout solution in the management of chronic wounds, offering patients a reliable path to recovery.
